Kathy Bond ~ President

Kathy Bond was born in Chicago, raised and educated in St. Louis, lived in New York, and finally settled in Wichita in 1988. She has been married to Gary for nearly 33 years, and they have three adult children and six grandchildren. She is a past board member on Wichita’s Board of Education and is in her eighth year as a guest teacher. Before serving on the BOE, Kathy ran her own home-based business for 15 years. Kathy’s enthusiasm for the Air Force runs deep because her father served for four years, reaching the rank of SSgt. Her brother served for 10 years with McConnell AFB as his final station before ending his Air Force career. Both of her sons have served in the Air Force, with one being a veteran and the other still on active duty in his tenth year. Kathy served as an Honorary Commander for the 22nd Air Refueling Wing at McConnell AFB from 2016 to 202, working under the Wing Commander and the commanders of the OSS. “My pride runs very deep for all the men and women who sacrifice for my freedom. It is with humility and honor that I got to serve these people.” Being a Republican has been her choice since she registered to vote at age 18. Her first election was in 1980, when she voted for Ronald Reagan. Kathy is a loyal Republican who cherishes the values, morals, and policies the party stands for. Although raised by Democrat parents in the 60’s and 70’s, she found her own beliefs and registered as a Republican. Kathy’s desire to serve her community has led her to volunteer with numerous non-profits, including the American Heart Association, Passageways, the Crime Commission, Dress for Success, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and the Metropolitan Ballet of Wichita, where she performs every December in the famous Nutcracker Ballet. Kathy loves learning, believing it's never too late. At 53, she finished her degree, graduating cum laude from Wichita State University at 60. With a background in ballet, seven years as a flight attendant, and speaking engagements, she lives life fully. Age didn't stop her from pursuing her childhood dream—at 53, she competed for Mrs. Kansas and was crowned Mrs. United States 2012. Kathy says, “Life is meant to live abundantly,” and “You’re never too old or too late.”
